Note on tracking Sun-Earth connection event ICME Event: 2013/01/18 Observer: Suman Dhakal on 2019/05 (part 1); 1. ICME 1.1. Catalog # Identified in ICME catalogs: Richardson & Can List RC catalog: Disturbance start time: 2013/01/18 12:37UT Ejecta start time: 2013/01/19 00:00 UT Ejecta End time: 2013/01/19 17:00 UT dv = 40 km/s, v = 430 km/s, vmax= 460 km/s MC index: 1 Dst: -25 nT Suggested source CME: V_transit: km/s 1.2. SW Plots Overall ICME quality index: 2 (because of low B) SW type: EJ+SH ICME signatures: Bmax: 6 nT Bz smoothly changing, mostly close to zero. Other ICME signatures: smoothly decreasing velocity; low plasma density; low proton temperature than the expected one low plasma beta Peculiar behavior: magnetic field decreased after the disturbance, avg around 5 nT. Search Window: Upper bound: Disturbance speed 430 km/s: 97 hrs: 2013/01/14 Lower bound: Transit speed < 700 km/s: 60 hrs < 2013/01/16 2. CME 2.1. A. Candidate A A.1. LASCO: #CME 2013/01/14 09:24 UT, partial halo (from CDAW) slow CME with linear velocity of 264 km/s and angular width 129 A.2. STEREO: Observed in both COR2-A and COR2-B, seems only part of the CME was moving toward the front side. A.3. AIA and GOES: Not associated with flare, eruption from the eastern limb (southern hemisphere). A.4. Comments: Unlikely the source: Erupting structure was mostly behind the limb, only one foot was in front side of the Sun. 2.1. B. Candidate B B.1. LASCO: #CME 2013/01/15 08:12, poor event (from CDAW) slow CME with linear velocity of 221 km/s and angular width of 105. Leading front was not sharp. B.2. STEREO: Seen as front side moving CME in both COR2-A and COR2-B. B.3. AIA and GOES: Associated with M-class flare, peaked at 06:58 UT, from AR 11650 B.4. Comments: located at the SE quadrant, unlikely to be the source due to small velocity and direction. 2.1.C. Candidate C C.1. LASCO #CME 2013/01/16 19:00 UT, partial Halo (from CDAW) Fast CME with linear velocity 648 km/s. seeds C2 velocity: 573 km/s Sharp LE, crossed the equatorial line. C.2. STEREO Seen as major CME in COR2-A (852 km/s) and COR2-B. C.3. AIA and GOES: AIA data is not available. C.4. Comments: Likely the source. 3. Other Comments Probable solar sorce is not identified for the disturbance. 4. Summary SW index: 2 Source index: 3 overall index: 3
